Audra McDonald's talent is unparalleled in her range of talents and diversity in her roles as a performer, singer and performer. Audra McDonald, the winner of the prestigious six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was named as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential people. President Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America for achievements in this field. She is equally at home on screen, in television and Broadway. Her stunning soprano is a perfect fit for the stage. Apart from her theater job, she is also pursuing worked as a music producer and concert artist. She is regularly performing in some of the top venues around the world. She was born into a musical family. McDonald spent her childhood in Fresno California and received her classical vocal training at the New York's Juilliard School. A year after graduating she won her first Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in musical for Carousel at Lincoln Center Theater (1994). The next four-year period the actress was awarded two more Tony Awards as a featured actress for her roles of Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998) which gave her the total 3 Tony Awards at the age at just 30. In 2004, she was nominated for her fourth Tony Award. She was in the role of A Raisin in the Sun along with Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her five year old daughter took home her first Tony award in the category of Leading Actress. In that performance, she played the title role of The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The Tony Awards' most decorated actor, she managed to set Broadway historical records when she won the sixth Tony Award acting in Billie Holiday as Lady Day at the Emerson's Bar & Grill. This role also provided the platform to make Her Olivier Award nominee 2017 London West End debut. In addition to setting the record for the most performances that an actor has won in a competition she became the first individual to win honors in every category of acting. McDonald was also seen on The Secret Garden (1993), Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (2007 Twelfth night (2009) and the film Shuffle Along Shuffle Along: A Musical Shock Story: Making of the Musical Shock that premiered in 1921 and everything That Followed (2016). She was the first actress to receive awards in every one of the acting categories. McDonald's first appearance as a dramatic TV actor came with the Peabody Award-winning CBS show Having Our Say, The Delany Sisters' First 100 years. After starring with Kathy Bates, Victor Garber and others in the acclaimed Disney/ABC remake of Annie during 1999 she was the role of a regular on the network's Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald, who received the Emmy Award nomination back in 1999 for her performance for the HBO version of Pulitzer Prize-winning film Wit starring Emma Thompson, was back on network TV in 2003 on the drama about politics Mister Sterling. The film was produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. Then, in the beginning of 2006, she joined in the ensemble of the show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over the course of the season, she was been a frequent guest on the NBC television series Kidnapped. McDonald got a fourth Emmy award in recognition of her part in the HBO film special Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill in 2016. She was a part of Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed drama co-produced through Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. McDonald initially played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in CBS's legal drama The Good Wife, in the year 2009. In 2018, she reprised that role in The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a series regular. She received three Critics Choice Award Nominations. Presently, she is appearing as a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which is telecast on HBO.
